of hostages and killed the bus driver. our coverage tonight starts with mark strassman in midland city for us. mark? >> reporter: scott, over the course of a week of negotiations, the f.b.i. and dykes developed a routine. he would ask for supplies. they would leave them at the entrance of his underground bunker. the f.b.i.'s hostage rescue team exploited that routine to end the stand-off. this video is our first glimpse of the dykes' property, the scene of the seven-day stand-off. sources tell us when dykes climbed the eight-foot ladder to get supplies yesterday and reached up to open the door, he was off balance and vulnerable. agents believed ethan would be away from the ladder and relatively protected. when rescue team members above dykes saw the door open they dropped two stun grenades. the noise and blinding flashes disoriented him. within seconds four team members entered the bunker. officials believe he fired a shot at them but missed. they returned fire multiple times killing dykes and rescuing the boy. these recent photos show ethan with his mother. she released a statement of thanks

of the most lethal sniper in u.s. history. chris kyle was fatally shot at a texas gun range. in lancaster, texas, mark, what can you tell us? >> reporter: lester, that gun range was chris kyle's second home practically. we are about 100 miles east of there in lancaster, texas. this is where the suspect, eddy ralph is from, being held in this police department, already gone before a judge arraigned on two counts of capital murder. we have some video from the scene on where ralph was captured. we are still trying to get more information on him. at this point, as far as a criminal history, he was convicted of dwi last year. what we are trying to find out is motive, and what, if any, relationship he had with chris kyle and the other victim, chad littlefield. the texas highway patrol is one of the agencies investigating. here is what they say he did right after the murders. >> he traveled back to his residence in lancaster. lancaster police department was able to catch up with him there. they took him into custody wo without incident after a brief pursuit. >> reporter: police tell us they have

will remember super bowl xlvii for the team's kind of nail biting victory. 34-31. most of us will remember it was the night that went out in new orleans. a power outage in new orleans stopped the game for 34 minutes it may have prevented a interest bowl blowout. we are joined by rachel in new orleans. >> good morning, soledad. no question, this was a huge embarrassment. i spoke to a superdome official last night, they had gone through a whole week with the stadium and city showing they could host an event of this magnitude. it not a gradient issue. this was about a piece of electronic equipment that monitors the electricity coming into the stadium. officials called it an "ab normality." really, it's just like in your house, when you have to go down to the basement and flip the switch again, that's what happened with the officials. they had to flip everything back open. lights slowly came back on. 34 minutes. a big delay for the ravens especially. right before, a kickoff return for the touchdown. right before that, the halftime show. and their offense hadn't been on the field for more than

, everyone. i'm randi kaye. it's 8:00 on the east coast. thanks so much for starting your morning with us. iraqi insurgents called him the devil. the this morning the former navy s.e.a.l. who wrote about making more than 150 sniper kills is dead. cnn has learned chris kyle was shot to death at a gun range near ft. worth, texas, yesterday along with another man. kyle is perhaps best known for penning the book, american sniper. it details his four combat tours in iraq. staerted a foundation to help veterans battling posttraumatic stress disorder. the gunman accused of killing him was a former marine who suffered from ptsd. our pentagon correspondent barbara starr joins me by phone. barbara, you've been dicking into this. what more do you know? >> this sad story emerged late last night, randi. the pentagon is trying to assemble what they can at this point about the service record of chris kyle and the man taken into custody, 25 years old. he was caught by police in texas after a brief pursuit, has been arraigned on two counts of capital murder. another man was shot along with chris kyle at t
